08 November 2006 - 01:54Web 2.0 ... Enterprise 2.0 ... Hype 2.0 ...
I was really close to moving on past this article when a couple of phrases put my back up. The breathless excitement is a trademark of this VC publicity engine (and honestly so), but it went past that.
"The cost of the full suite will be between $150 and $200 per seat per year, which is a premium over the cost of each component individually, but SpikeSource and Intel hope that by integrating the products to make them easy to use together that they have added enough value to make the suite appealing to businesses." Of course, they haven't installed these apps previosuly because ...? Somehow integration and a higher price tag doesn't sound like a winner.
:This suite has potential if only because it can make it easier for businesses to adopt enterprise 2.0 products such as blogs and wiki’s, but the downside might be that all this is too much for some businesses and they may opt to adopt each of these products independently." Another way to make my point, Mike. They don't have a clue what to do with these technologies. As neat as they are, they're technologies looking for solutions in this space and integration doesn't establish value, especially when it costs extra.
Full disclosure: We use Pivot for blogging here and I use Wordpress at PointLookout. The wikis (all internal) use OddMuse. We use PHPBB for our forums and most of it generates RSS on the way by. Abd ut;s akk free, Wordpress and phpBB are preinstalled on our hosted sites these days ... what is this announcement about at $150 a seat and up? No comments: No trackbacks:
