08 May 2006 - 07:20A RedHat/SuSE without the distro?

I spent a while on the OpenLogic site after reading this clueless breathless article to see what Open Source projects they support. The proposition looks like they're making a play to be the Level 1 and Level 2 technical support aggregators ... but they've got a number of their own technologies. Wonder if that's Open Source too! Never did figure out what technologies they do support ... maybe I'm just impatient.

This looks a lot like what HP is doing with it's Portfolio(s). It's an obvious idea but with so many projects, it's hard to imagine the business model across a large number of projects. It's almost like they're trying to take on what a lot of people think they're getting from Red Hat or SuSE/Novell (which they obviously are not). But at least those providers have a distribution with a lot of added value already built in.

They haven't called Howard (Symas's Chief Architect) that I know of ... not likely they're worried about the Directory. ... Marty
